State Department Releases Annual Human Rights Report

The agency outlines the top areas of concern for human rights violations.

The U.S. State Department released the 2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices this week. The findings “cover internationally recognized individual, civil, political, and worker rights, as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international agreements.“

The report highlighted Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, referencing violence on citizens. The civil war in Sudan is another conflict in which, the report said, both sides “have unleashed horrific violence, death, and destruction.”

Secretary Antony Blinken said the Israel-Hamas war raises “deeply troubling concerns for human rights.” The human rights violations of Iran, Afghanistan, China, and Cuba also appear in the report.

Secretary Blinken stated, “In compiling these … [reports] we have drawn from a variety of credible, fact-based sources, including reporting from government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and media.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For State Department officials as they evaluate and compile human rights information on nations around the world.
  • For wisdom for Secretary Blinken as he oversees diplomatic efforts of the United States.
